A Valentine’s Vow

How One Couple Turned an Accidental Anniversary into a Cinematic Celebration

Valentine’s Day

When we think of Valentine’s Day, we often think of the classic clichés: red roses, heart-shaped chocolates, and candlelit dinners. But for Hannah and Dan, February 14th carries a much deeper significance. This year, the couple will be saying I do at the award-winning wedding venue, St Tewdrics House on the exact anniversary of their engagement. It’s a full-circle moment that was - believe it or not - entirely accidental.

The Proposal: From the Highlands to the Aisle

Their story together began six years ago with a first date of mini-golf in Cardiff (where, in a relatable twist, Hannah was 20 minutes late!). Fast forward four years later to a trip to Edinburgh, where Dan planned a tour of the Harry Potter filming locations for the self-confessed movie buffs. The proposal took place at the stunning lake near the Glenfinnan Viaduct - famous to fans as the site of the Black Lake. While Dan had to dodge a few tourists to find the perfect spot, the surprise was a total success - but it wasn’t until the day itself that Dan realised he’d actually booked the trip for Valentine’s Day! When they found that St Tewdrics House had the same date available for their wedding, they knew it was meant to be.

Making Their Wedding Truly Theirs

Hannah and Dan’s wedding is a masterclass in how to ignore tradition and lean into what makes you you. Describing their relationship as ‘nerdy, weird and intertwined’, they’ve infused their own personalities into every aspect of their big day.

Forget traditional table numbers. Each table represents one of their favourite TV shows or movies, with the head table naturally themed around Harry Potter as a nod to their engagement, but perhaps the most anticipated guest of the day is Kody, the couple’s Border Collie, who will be taking on the role of ring bearer.

Instead of following a wedding ‘rulebook’, the couple focused on creating a day that felt authentic to their six-year journey.

Advice for Planning Your Own Meaningful Day

Reflecting on their planning journey, Hannah and Dan’s advice is simple: “Don’t compare what you want to what others have done on their wedding day and enjoy the process as it will fly by! We have found it especially meaningful when we have been planning the wedding together.”

By choosing a venue they loved instantly in St Tewdrics House, and a date that held personal history, they’ve turned their wedding into a double celebration’ that perfectly captures their story.
