The Golden Hour: An Autumn Wedding, Hour by Hour

St Tewdrics

Autumn isn’t known as the golden season just for the colour of the leaves, but for the light itself. Low, warm, unhurried, arriving earlier in the afternoon and lingering longer than you’d expect. An autumn wedding at our venue in Wales moves to its own rhythm, from misty first light to a candlelit last dance. Here’s what a day in autumn at St Tewdrics looks like…

Early Morning - Mist on the Meadow

Before a single guest arrives, the wildflower meadow is at its most cinematic: dew on seed heads, a soft mist rolling off the Severn Estuary, the House quiet except for footsteps on gravel. It's the best-kept secret of an autumn wedding at St Tewdrics - the grounds belong entirely to you before the day even begins.

11:30am - Getting Ready in Caban y Coed

Morning light, the first clink of glasses with your closest few. Caban y Coed does its best work in autumn, when the low sun slants through the windows, and the excitement in the room has that particular hush before everything begins.

1:30pm – Vows in The Courtyard

Whatever the weather decides to do, The Courtyard is ready. Flooded with soft, scattered light that makes for some of the most flattering autumn wedding photography. Original stone, contemporary glass, and vows exchanged somewhere in between. It’s the kind of space that means you never have to choose between an indoor ceremony and beautiful light. You simply get both.

3pm – Golden Hour on the Lawn

This is the hour photographers wait all year for. The 10-acre grounds turn into amber and rust, the light comes in low and warm, and a walk through the wildflower garden becomes the portrait session every couple hopes for. There’s a stillness to this part of the afternoon. Champagne in hand, guests scattered across the terrace, nothing left to do but enjoy the moment.

6pm – Candlelight in the Courtyard

As the sun disappears, the room shifts personality. Taper candles catch the last of the golden light and carry it through dinner, speeches and the first dance – the same warm glow that inspired our own Signature Scent candles, if you’re looking for a way to bottle the feeling for your guests to take home.

Midnight – Last Dance, Then Cariad

When the music finally stops, you’re not driving anywhere – you’re walking upstairs to Cariad, our honeymoon suite, while up to eight en-suite bedrooms across the House and Grade II listed Lodge mean your favourite people are still just a few steps away.

If this is the kind of day you can already picture, we’d love to show you around. Book a tour and let’s talk about your 2027 autumn wedding at St Tewdrics House.
