Spice & Candlelight: A Winter Wedding Palette

St Tewdrics

When the wildflower meadow settles under frost and the light turns low and golden by mid-afternoon, St Tewdrics takes on a distinct kind of beauty. Moodier, richer, made for candlelight rather than sunshine. If you’re planning a winter wedding, here’s a palette that works with the season – rather than against it – and feels right at home against our original stone and soft indoor light.

The Palette

Think deep burgundy, emerald and ink navy, warmed through with amber and antique gold. Colours that hold their own in low light and come alive under candlelight. Add ivory for contrast and you have a palette that’s elegant by day and completely romantic once the sun goes down. It’s one for shorter days: doesn’t count on sunshine to look its best, and only gets richer as the evening draws in.

The Flowers

Swap the meadow’s cornflowers and daisies for amaryllis, garden roses and ranunculus in deep wine and burgundy tones, paired with trailing eucalyptus, dried grasses and a little winter greenery. Dark, textural florals like this photograph beautifully on the Grand Staircase or gathered along the Courtyard’s original stone walls. For bouquets and buttonholes, a few sprigs of rosemary or bay add scent as well as texture - a nice, subtle nod to a winter wedding without anything too rustic.

Let the smaller touches do the work: brass and gold candlesticks down the length of the table, dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks tucked into place settings, dark linen with gold flatware. Taper candles are non-negotiable - they're what turns a winter reception into an unforgettable occasion, catching the amber and emerald tones in every flicker. Favours: a miniature candle in your signature scent, tied with ribbon in one of your chosen tones, gives guests something to take home with them.

Why It Works at St Tewdrics House

A palette like this doesn’t need to be styled into the House. It’s already there in the original Italianate architecture, the honeyed light of the Courtyard, and the quiet theatre of the Grand Staircase.

With the House exclusively yours and up to eight en-suite bedrooms across the villa and Grade II listed Lodge, there’s no rush to pack up and head home once the last dance is done. Add your own spice-and-candlelight palette to your winter wedding and the whole day feels considered, cosy and completely yours, right through to the moment you retire to Cariad, our honeymoon suite, as newlyweds.
